The jointer is an essential tool in any fully functional workshop. It’s sole purpose is to completely flatten one side of a board and to make it true to be joined with another board. There are many other uses, but this is the main one. When I got this tool there was a little assembly to go through and also some calibration for the knives and fence. In placing the jointer body on the closed cabinet, I noticed that it was rack just enough to make the whole tool rock. I was able to get it where it need to be with little effort, and bolted them together. The manual was very detailed and walked me through every step of the way in the small adjustments and calibrations. I was amazed on how quiet it was when running. However, it does get quite loud depending on what size stock and what type of wood you put across it. The dust chute in my opinion needs to better designed. It works ok, but not that great. If you use this tool without some sort of dust collection, eventually sawdust collects in the cavity right below the knives, and inhibits any future collection due to blockage if not cleaned out every couple of time of use. It makes quite a mess so I would use a DC. The motor is 1 horsepower, and can be wired for 220v. Here I have it at 110 and never had a problem with the operation on any size stock that I put through it. The power switch is located above the jointer for easy access, which is very convenient so you don’t have to reach down and compromise safety. As a whole this machine does what it’s suppose to do, and very accurately. There is no amazement and shooting stars with the jointer, but it’s a tool that is needed.

Delta 6" professional Jointer
Before I purchased a bandsaw, I did allot of research and the one that always came out ahead was the Delta. It’s gotten allot of positive reviews and being a huge fan of the company I bought one. Well…..I have to say in having it and used it for a few years that my review is not glowing. In my opinion it’s a glorified scroll saw. The saw itself went together nicely (not much to do). The manual was very informative as all delta literature is, and the calibrations where pretty straight forward. The biggest problem that I have is keeping the blade square with the table. No matter how many adjustments I do, I can not get the blade to travel straight. I noticed that the table is not totally square with the blade and no matter what I do there is always something else going out of adjustment. Though, there are a few calibrations that control this, however in my case I may get one thing all set then another one goes out. Therefore, this makes it impossible for things like re-sawing and cutting curves on thick stock. When I’m in the middle of a project, I want total focus on the woodworking, and not have to double check adjustments. Also, the on/off switch is lacking. It's a toggle and it's positioned in an awrkward spot on the stand below the saw. I purchased a larger one from rockler.com and mounted it at about shoulder high on the body, and seems to be a more comfortable reach for me. So, I have to give this one a thumbs down. Then again it just could be that I purchased a lemon. I will be upgrading!!
