The best way to improve upon a space and also save some cash is to restore something from old to new. That is, if you are willing to take the time and a little hard work. I found that it’s the simple things that make the difference not just high-end merchandise or even store bought goods from a home improvement store. It is often that I drive around and find that people are willing to let things go in terms of out with the old and in with the new. Many times I see someone throw out a perfectly good lets say door to be replaced with a new six panel hollow door. Well, that door that is destined for the curb could be solid oak, maple, or even mahogany. Most people can not tell the difference or even care to. They just want a new look in their house, and are willing to get rid of it and throw it in the trash. People like myself can visualize what that mahogany door will be when transformed or restored to either its original finish or even a whole new piece of furniture such as a new console table for the hall or a nice bedside trunk. Of course one would have to reside to some knowledge in woodworking and an assortment of tools at their disposal. There are projects that can be accomplished however without a whole room of tools, and complicated designs. Again, sometimes the best pieces are the simple ones. The key words here are Simple and imagination.
Books are always a great way to gain knowledge and Ideas
This here is my wife's Idea. She took an old wicker trunk and placed a beveled glass top from a previously not so great base. Now this area has a completely different look and feel. Also, we now have additional storage....Cost...zero.
I am in the process of restoring these old doors that I salvaged from a garage. They have been sitting there up against a wall for a long time. There is some water damage that I think I can repair. I am having a hard time dating them. If anyone can help please email me.
